Social Media Marketing is not just a bunch of chatter

The idea behind social media is that we can share our thoughts and interests with other like minded people who want to share with us. This holds true for coaches in a huge way. It does not matter if you are a weight loss coach, relationship coach, fitness coach, transition coach, or business coach there are many people out there that would love to have you share your knowledge, insight, and information. You can do that with social media. Think about how many people you can help when you are communicating one to many through social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Who are the leaders in your area of business?

Find the leaders in your area of business and follow them on Twitter then become their friend or fan on Facebook. Take a look at the type of conversations they are having with the people who are interested in them. This will give you a good idea of what people want and need. They are talking about what interests or challenges them. You can enter the conversation without selling a thing. You can help people by sharing your knowledge or experience without being a promoter or a salesman. When you help someone the law of reciprocity kicks in and they want to help you back. Sometimes that means just learning more about you. Sometimes that means signing up for a newsletter and becoming a member of your contact list and sometimes that means buying your product or service.

Social Media is Not a Place for Hard Sell

Social media is a place to become a part of the conversation and equally valuable to listen to what people are talking about. By listening to what people are talking about, what they need help with and what interests them you are being told exactly what products and services people are interested in. You want to go to social media sites to observe and contribute not to pitch yourself, your products or your services. In fact, this is likely to be very detrimental to your business and your success in social media.
 

I am going to tell you all the absolute truth about how I started out online and how difficult it was for me to learn all there was to learn and how confused I was. I have been a little AWOL for a couple of weeks because of many changes in my life and business. Change is a funny thing we can know it is coming even want it but when it happens our response can be totally unexpected. I am usually a person who thrives on change and I often make changes just to keep myself from getting bored.  I don’t view change as bad in fact I often view it as good.

I wanted to take some time to share just the first part of what I am learning about how to deal with big change and what not to do. I had to take a look at how I view change…do I usually view it as good or bad or just accept it? What I have learned is that for me there is a period of adjustment before acceptance. What I also learned is that what happens during that period of adjustment can be unpredictable and even frightening.  See, I like control. I like to be busy and in charge. I like to know what is coming next. What I have learned is that is not the way life goes and that letting go of that need to control is critical to dealing with big change.

I learned that change always brings growth and greater self knowledge if we pay attention. I have learned that I am not as tough as I think I am and that my friends online and offline are very important to me and my wellbeing. I learned that it is OK to ask for help and to let people know that I am not perfect. What I really learned is that being human and letting it all hang out can really help people know and like you even more. I have learned that my authentic self is the person that is most appealing and attractive to others and I should show that side of myself more often.

How does all of this relate to you and your business? Know that change will come and sometimes it comes in boat loads. Know that change can always turn out for good. Allow your humanity to show even in your business. Allow others to help you when you need it…especially in your business. Mostly what  I learned is to accept and move forward knowing it will all work out the way it should. Besides what the hell else can you do?

This comes from the heart of a true control freak. Now all that said I am moving forward so expect some change and some great change to my work with you. I want to get more real about what we do and what we don’t do to help our businesses and why. My tone may become a bit more honest and in your face. I plan to provide both good content and instruction along with some real coaching.

I started marketing my business online 17 months ago and at the time I did’t know a thing about the Internet. It is obvious that if you have a large list of people that are interested in what you have to offer then you are going to generate more income than if you have a tiny list. Build a Responsive List of Clients

I am certain that you would like to get more clients, have more people attend your workshop or events, sell more products and services, and have more people subscribe to you membership site. The best way to do this is to work diligently at building your list and to use a shopping cart or auto responder system.

Here is how the numbers work for online marketing. You can expect anywhere between a .5 and 1.5% conversion rate. That means that if you make an email offer to 1000 people you can expect to have 5-15 take you up on that offer. Now, if you have 3000 people on your list you can expect to have 15-45. This is the power of a larger list.

How to Build a List
I will assume you have decided on a target niche so you know who you want on your list. Now you need to have a service that will capture your opt-ins and allow you to send emails, newsletter and auto responder messages to them.
