Get Coaching Clients with Keyword Research
September 16, 2009
Marketing your internet business online and keyword research is a daunting task and frankly one that did not seem so exciting to me. I realized how important keyword research was yet the task was not one I was all fired up to spend a lot of time working on it. Sometimes I am just stubborn that way because I don’t find the particular task exciting.
This is one of those tasks that does not seem interesting until you start to see the results from your efforts. Those results will come in the form of income or opting into your client list. You can also see the results in you page rank on Google.
Take it Easy and Take Your Time
The first step is to make a list of all the keywords and keyword phrases you can think of. Keep in mind that you are not your customer so you will not think of all the possible keywords.
Brainstorm all the words you can think of that a potential coaching client would type into the search box. Think of all the words that a person would possibly type in a search related to your target coaching niche and services. Think of all the possible word and phrases that relate to your target coaching niche.
Think of words and phrases that are action or buying oriented. Buying oriented keywords are your best keywords but don’t forget research oriented keywords as well. For example think of “how to get coaching clients” as a buy oriented keyword phrase rather than a browsing keyword phrase like “coaching clients”. The person that types in “how to get coaching clients” is looking for information and they know what they are looking for. They are more likely to pay for information that helps them get what they are looking for. The keyword phrase “get coaching clients” has an action word in it and that make all the difference.
Try to avoid words that are too general and not descriptive. Choose words that cover your specific services. Ask friends, colleagues, and customers for help. You can bet they will see things differently that you will so their input is important. They are much more like your clients than you are when it comes to searching for your information and keywords.
This work does not seem like it makes a direct effect on your coaching business but it actually makes a huge effect over time and the effect can be negative if you do not do this work well. Most coaches don’t know how to do keyword research or simply don’t do it and that is why you will rise far above the competition when you take the time to do the research well.
